Introduction to the Retired Educators’ Association
The Retired Educators’ Association of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) originated from the “Retired Staff Club” established in 1994. The initiative was led by veteran revolutionary educator Nguyễn Thiện Hước (former Vice Rector of HUST), together with respected teachers such as Phạm Lương Tuệ, Phan Tuấn Đồng, and others.
Over time, the association attracted many retired faculty and staff members. In 2004, under the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Association of Retired Educators was officially established, with the HUST branch being one of its founding members. Given the large number of retired personnel at the university, local branches (Chi hội) were set up within each faculty or unit.
In 2006, the Mathematics and Informatics Branch was established with 45 members from the then Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics and the Faculty of Information Technology (now the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and the School of Information and Communication Technology).
- Mr. Lê Trọng Vinh was appointed Head of the Branch
- Mr. Đỗ Xuân Lôi served as Deputy Head.
The branch has served as a bridge connecting retired faculty with current staff and alumni from both the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and the School of ICT. Through this connection, the branch has carried out meaningful activities under the motto: “Living healthily, happily, and usefully.”
As of 2013, the branch had 65 members, including:
- 4 Professors
- 14 Associate Professors
Many of whom continue to contribute actively to scientific research, organizing seminars, teaching, sharing teaching materials and experience, and supporting younger generations in undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral education.
Due to the growing number of retirees, and to better align activities with the organizational structure, the branch was officially split into two separate branches in 2013 — one under each respective school or faculty. The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics Branch currently consists of 40 members.
- Branch Head: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Trọng Vinh
- Deputy Head: Dr. Nguyễn Hữu Tiến
Key Annual Activities of the Branch:
- Advising and participating in various academic activities of the Faculty: teaching, seminars, textbook writing, etc.
- Serving as a bridge to the Alumni Association, supporting the promotion and development of academic programs.
- Organizing reunions and gatherings every year on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20).
- Visiting and supporting retired colleagues during times of illness or bereavement.
- In collaboration with the Faculty Union, organizing longevity celebrations for members turning 70, 75, 80, and over 80 — as a gesture of respect and appreciation from former students and younger generations.
The Retired Educators’ Branch of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics continues to be an active and meaningful part of the community, contributing valuable support to academic activities and the development of the Faculty, HUST, and the nation.
