About us

The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a leading academic and research unit with a strong reputation in the fields of Mathematics and Informatics. The Faculty is dedicated to:

  • Delivering high-quality education and conducting research in mathematics, applied mathematics, and informatics;
  • Collaborating with universities and research institutions both in Vietnam and internationally;
  • Partnering with industries, government agencies, and enterprises to apply mathematical and computational methods in various domains such as economics, finance, engineering, and technology.

The Faculty originated from the Mathematics Division established in 1956, which was initially responsible for teaching mathematics to all university students. In 1968, it became the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and began offering specialized training programs in Applied Mathematics, initiated by Professors Trần Đại Nghĩa and Tạ Quang Bửu. Today, the Faculty comprises over 70 academic staff, most of whom hold doctoral degrees from leading institutions around the world. They are not only highly qualified but also deeply committed to teaching and research.

We maintain strong academic partnerships with prestigious universities and research institutes globally. In line with our mission to provide practice-oriented education and enhance career opportunities for students, the Faculty actively collaborates with major corporations and organizations such as Viettel, CMC, VPBank, VietinAviva Insurance, the Vietnam Institute of Mathematics, and the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM). Many students with outstanding academic performance have received scholarships or job offers during their studies.

In addition to teaching mathematics to students across the university, the Faculty offers undergraduate programs in Engineering Mathematics and Informatics, Management Information Systems, and the Advanced Program in Mathematical Informatics for talented students. Our graduates are highly sought after and quickly find employment in banks, financial analytics centers, auditing and statistical agencies, IT companies, the General Statistics Office, planning committees, universities, and research institutions. Employers consistently value our students for their strong foundation in mathematics and computational science, their analytical mindset, and their ability to adapt and learn independently in rapidly evolving professional environments. Most alumni enjoy successful and stable careers, with many holding key positions in their organizations. Furthermore, our graduates are well-prepared to pursue postgraduate studies abroad.

At the graduate level, the Faculty offers a Master of Science in Mathematical Informatics and a Doctoral program in Mathematics, with research orientations in:

  1. Mathematical Informatics
  2. Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics
  3. Applied Mathematics
  4. Differential and Integral Equations
  5. Mathematical Analysis
  6. Algebra and Number Theory

In 2021, according to the ranking of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was ranked No. 1 in Vietnam and ranked at 351-400 in the world in the Group of Mathematics.
