Doctoral Programs

Every year, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics offers doctoral programs in Mathematics with the following specializations:

  1. Mathematical Analysis
  2. Applied Mathematics
  3. Differential and Integral Equations
  4. Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics
  5. Mathematical Informatics
  6. Algebra and Number Theory

I. Admission Method

  • Application and portfolio-based selection.

II. Program Format

  • Full-time study.
  • Standard study duration: 3–4 years for applicants with a master’s degree; 4 years for applicants with a bachelor’s degree.

III. Eligibility and Admission Requirements

  1. Academic qualifications:

a) Applicants must have:

  • A master’s degree, or
  • A bachelor’s degree with a Very Good or higher classification, or
  • An equivalent qualification at Level 7 of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework, relevant to the doctoral program applied for.

b) Applicants must demonstrate research experience through at least one of the following:

  • A research-oriented master’s thesis,
  • Authorship or co-authorship of a published scientific paper or conference presentation,
  • At least two years (24 months) of experience working as a lecturer or researcher at a recognized educational or scientific institution.
  1. Foreign language proficiency:
  • Vietnamese applicants: Must demonstrate language proficiency through one of the following:
    a) A bachelor’s degree or higher awarded by a foreign institution, a foreign university branch in Vietnam, or a Vietnamese institution with full-time programs taught in a foreign language;
    b) A bachelor’s degree in a foreign language awarded by a Vietnamese institution;
    c) A valid foreign language certificate (according to Appendix II or equivalent) at Level 4 or higher of the Vietnamese 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework, recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training. Certificates must be issued within 2 years prior to the application date.
  • Foreign applicants: If applying for a PhD program taught in Vietnamese, they must have a Vietnamese language proficiency certificate at Level 4 or higher (according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners) and meet the requirement for a second foreign language as determined by the training institution, unless they are native speakers of the language used in the doctoral program.
